We know coaching can feel like a lot. This page walks you through everything step by step so you're confident before you step on the field.
Complete every item below before your first training session.
Hold this before or right after your first training session. It sets the tone for the entire season.
Share a little about yourself โ why you're coaching, your soccer background (or lack of it!), and your goals for the season. Keep it warm and brief โ 2-3 minutes max.
Cover these key points to prevent 90% of issues later:
Give parents an overview of: training days/times/location, game dates (via GameChanger), key deadlines, and weather cancellation process.
Ask for volunteers: an Assistant Coach, a Team Parent, and a Sponsor contact. Most parents are willing if asked directly with a specific role.
A ready-to-customise welcome letter covering season overview, schedule, policies, and your contact info.
โฌ Download Template (PDF)A one-page agreement outlining player and parent commitments โ sideline behavior, punctuality, sportsmanship, and the AYSO values. Optional but recommended for U10+.
โฌ Download Contract (PDF)Board members first, then coaches of multiple teams, then by division and number. Wait for your turn.
Write your last name and division in pencil only โ e.g. "Smith 10UG". Most fields have multiple teams at the same time.
Take a picture of the sign-up sheet so you remember your time and location. Field maps at ayso206.org.
Download the Zelus WBGT app (free). Check it before every session. Heat safety is your call as coach.
